Partnership agreement to foster the contribution of new researchers to science diplomacy

The Fonds de recherche du Québec, the Ministère de l’Économie, de la Science et de l’Innovation, the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie and LOJIQ - Les Offices jeunesse internationaux du Québec are proud to announce the signing of a partnership agreement to launch a scientific internship pilot project within Québec’s offices abroad.

In an effort to promote careers in research in a range of environments and workplaces, the postdoctoral training pilot project aims to enable PhD graduates to become more familiar with science diplomacy and make their own contribution, specifically by supporting international research collaborations, the mobility of researcher students and professors, the reach of Québec research and partnership development.

The first two internships will be led by the Québec government offices in London and Munich. The United Kingdom and Germany were chosen in view of the fact that both nations are global leaders in science, research and innovation.

Quotations

“I believe it is important to provide researcher students from Québec with training opportunities abroad and introduce them to science diplomacy. Members of the new generation of researchers can certainly make an innovative contribution to science diplomacy, which is an area we must further develop over the next few years. I am especially proud that the intersectoral student committee of the Fonds de recherche du Québec worked to make this initiative a reality—evidence of the members’ efforts to promote young scientific researchers from Québec.”

– Rémi Quirion, Québec’s Chief Scientist

“Our government is proud to be part of this initiative, which will increase Québec’s visibility within the international scientific community. By fostering collaborations between new researchers from Québec and strategic research and innovation partners abroad, these internships will also serve to help achieve the objectives of the Stratégie québécoise de la recherche et de l’innovation, which aim, in particular, to ensure that Québec gains recognition as one of the world’s most innovative societies by 2030.”

– Dominique Anglade, Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation and Minister responsible for the Digital Strategy

“These scientific internships within Québec’s network abroad will allow researcher students to share in hands-on experiences. Through this initiative, we aim to provide students with the opportunity to fully develop their potential in a stimulating and supportive environment from which they will benefit throughout their careers. The talent of Québec researchers is already known around the world, and there is no question that this partnership will contribute to Québec’s international reach and strengthen the province’s science diplomacy.”

– Christine St-Pierre, Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie

“This project serves to develop the mobility of Québec’s young postgraduate researchers and is an exceptional contribution to Québec’s international research and innovation activities. As is the case with many of the projects led by LOJIQ to enhance the career development of students who take part in international efforts, the internships will undoubtedly generate significant career opportunities for these young researchers.”

– Michel Robitaille, President and CEO, LOJIQ
