The Fonds de recherche du Québec and Inserm sign a joint declaration of intent

Rémi Quirion, Québec’s chief scientist, welcomes the joint declaration of intent he signed today in Paris on behalf of the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) with Claire Giry, deputy director-general, on behalf of Yves Lévy, chairman and chief executive officer of the Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (Inserm).

The declaration affirms the partners’ shared determination to develop and carry out joint collaborative activities in the health research sector. It aims, in particular, to enhance support for advanced research, including major projects in connection with the priority and niche areas set out in the Stratégie québécoise de la recherche et de l'innovation and the Horizon 2020 European research and innovation program. More specifically, the declaration seeks to foster the initiation of joint research projects between France and Québec, as well as the publication and dissemination of French-language knowledge, and support French and Québec student exchanges. The agreement covers the next four years.

Further details on the initiatives that will be developed under the joint declaration of intent will be communicated to members of Québec’s scientific community in due course.

Quotation

“The agreement strengthens a position that we have supported for a long time: the importance of international collaborations for the advancement of knowledge and research training. In that sense, Inserm has been a long-standing partner of the FRQ in the development of health research. As we intensify the pooling of our scientific expertise, we will increase the impact of our research for the wellbeing of our populations.”

– Rémi Quirion, Québec’s chief scientist
