As part of Québec Premier Philippe Couillard's and Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation, Dominique Anglade, official mission to Israel and the West Bank, the Fonds de recherche du Québec (Nature et technologies; Santé; Société et culture; hereafter the FRQ) and the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology (PALAST) are pleased to announce the signature of an agreement aimed at encouraging collaboration between researchers in Québec and their counterparts in the West Bank, Jerusalem and Gaza by increasing the international mobility of the latter, particularly young researchers. Under this agreement, the FRQ will invite up to 60 researchers from this region to carry out short research missions in Québec.

Highlights:
- The four-year agreement involves a commitment of up to $255,000 per year on the part of the FRQ, for a total of $1 M over the term of the agreement.
- Each FRQ will offer up to five (5) individual grants per year, or a total of fifteen (15) grants.
- The programme will fund short-term scientific missions (three to six months) by researchers from the West Bank, Jerusalem and Gaza whose research has already produced notable results in the fields of health sciences, natural sciences and engineering, or social sciences and humanities, arts and letters.

Palestine Academy for Science and Technology (PALAST) is an autonomous public, not-for-profit organization with its headquarters in Jerusalem and branches in Ramallah and Gaza. Established by presidential decree No. 114 in 1997 and reconfirmed by presidential decree No. 13 in 2004, the Academy is mandated to be the primary science and technology body in the country in charge of providing advice in formulating policies, programs and projects to support national development and participating in the coordination of relevant scientific and technological (S&T) activities. As a result, the Academy constitutes the focal point and an umbrella for science and technology.
