Passing of Fernand Labrie

The Québec Chief Scientist Office and the Fonds de recherche du Québec are deeply saddened by the passing of Fernand Labrie, physician and medical researcher in endocrinology, who served as president of the Fonds de recherche en santé du Québec from 1992 to 1995.

In 1969, Dr. Labrie founded the molecular endocrinology laboratory at Université Laval and led the CHUL research centre from 1982 to 2008. He made discoveries in endocrinology in a number of fields, including prostate cancer and hormone therapy in breast cancer. The recipient of numerous awards and honours throughout his career, he was also appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada and Ordre national du Québec.
