International Conference on Science Advice to Governments (INGSA2021) – August 30 to September 2, 2021

The Chief Scientist of Québec and the Chief Science Advisor of Canada are pleased to invite you to the fourth edition of the International Conference on Science Advice to Governments — Build Back Wiser: Knowledge, Policy and Publics in Dialogue. The event will take place in a hybrid format from the Palais des Congrès de Montréal, Canada from August 30 to 2 September 2021.

The overarching theme of INGSA2021 reflects our unique historical moment where the critical lessons of the pandemic must inform new ways of working on the other great challenges and transitions facing societies and the planet. The conference will be guided by four main themes, one per day:

  • Promise and Pandemic: Reshaping Science Advice – What worked, what didn’t, what are the lessons from the pandemic, and where do we go from here?
  • Foresight and Resilience: From SDGs to Emerging Technologies – The challenges facing the world are manifold – what role should science advice play in preparing societies for disruption?
  • Evidence and Democracy: Sustaining Trust in a Challenging World – With trust, truth and the very nature of understanding increasingly up for debate, what is the relationship between science and democracy and how can it help?
  • Francophonie – This singular day will be an opportunity to explore best practices in science advice and share expertise specific to this specific cultural entity.
