Data sharing to accelerate the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) research

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic poses a significant and urgent threat to global health, and additional measures are required to give impetus to the dissemination of scientific knowledge on the current situation. The Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) are asking the researchers who have been granted funding for an initiative related to coronavirus (COVID-19) to apply the principles of the statement Sharing research data and findings relevant to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Released by the Wellcome Foundation and signed by the FRQ in March, the statement has been endorsed by funding agencies, publishing companies, government organizations and scientific institutions around the world. It calls for research data and results on coronavirus (COVID-19) to be shared quickly and openly.

More specifically, the statement aims to ensure that research findings are immediately shared with the WHO upon journal submission. Raw data related to symptoms, DNA results and individuals' geographic locations must also be shared clearly and without delay. The data sharing must be carried out in compliance with current dissemination and confidentiality standards.
