Today, The Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) and the l’Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) are launching a call for projects between France and Québec on the sea. It is a project for teams made up of researchers from Québec and France.
The goal of this program is to improve the understanding of human activities, including marine transportation, combined with the natural variability of the oceans, and the impacts the sustainability of the ocean-coastal zones-estuaries continuum and socio-economic services.
Projects must be interdisciplinary, intersectoral and/or transdisciplinary. It is encouraged to establish public-private partnerships and/or engage societal actors (eg local authorities, environmental protection associations, fisheries).
Research project proposals must be into at least one of the following three fields of research:
- Characterize and reduce the environmental, economic and social impact of maritime transport and port infrastructure between Europe and Canada, using systems and integrative approaches - in particular the potential effects of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA);
- Reduce the ecological footprint (including, but not limited to the development of clean technologies) of marine activities, including the impacts of contaminants (eg antifouling or heavy fuel oil); invasive species (eg ballast water); noise; dredging, etc.
- Development of socio-ecological-economic scenarios of adaptation to different time horizons with the aim of a sustainable management of the ocean-coastal zones-river continuum.
Applications must be submitted jointly by a French coordinator and a Québec coordinator and will be evaluated by the ANR and the FRQ.
Useful information
The files must be submitted on both, the ANR and FRQ, websites, according to the specific procedures of each agency and indicated in the text of the call for projects.
