Creation of a France-Québec Institute to support scientific cooperation in the maritime sector

The Premier of Québec, Philippe Couillard, and the Prime Minister of France, Manuel Valls, signed an agreement leading to the creation of the France-Quebec Institute for scientific cooperation to support the maritime sector (IFQM). This international collaboration space will network the Québec and French researchers, promoting knowledge sharing, development of new expertise and innovation in the maritime field. This international collaboration space will connect the Québec and French researchers, promoting knowledge sharing, development of new expertise and innovation in the maritime field. Thus, the complementary of scientific initiatives on maritime development incentive France and Québec to strengthen their capacities through innovative collaboration on six priority research themes and to give stakeholders a structured impetus to bilateral cooperation, but also and especially to create a synergy able to place them in a leadership position on both the Atlantic and international scene.

As a reminder, note that the recent creation of the Québec maritime network concentrates the forces in Québec's research on maritime issues. The network established at the University of Quebec at Rimouski will have IFQM as an international partner.
